Rollings both factions on PVP servers?

So apparently one of the changes in the patch today, a forerunner of the faction change service that is being worked on, is the ability to roll toons of both factions on a PVP server.

On the one hand, I have a lot of Alliance pals on VeCo. It’d be nice to be able to hop over and chat sometimes, and maybe I’d actually level an Alliance character successfully if I had people to talk to. I don’t know.

It’ll also be good for RP, I think, since the whole RP community, both Horde and Alliance, will be able to support peaceful events like storytelling and tavern nights, holiday parties, and so on.

On the other hand, from the perspective of someone on a server where world PVP is still very active, I don’t think this will be good for that. I can see a lot of cross-faction sabotage, and I think it will take the enthusiasm and competition out of things like Wintergrasp. Our world PVP has finally picked WAY up after a very dry spell, and I don’t want it to dry up again.

Plus it’s going to mess up the very lucrative cross-faction recipe and pet trades, though it might help deter the wool mafia (no one will pay 20g a stack when they can hop onto their Alliance DK and farm Stocks).

So … I’m torn. My first reaction was DO NOT WANT, but the longer I think about it, the more I can see both pros and some major, major cons to this. I’m really upset that it was launched without warning, too.

  1. The ironic thing is literally just a day or two earlier, I was thinking to myself, “You know, it’s only a matter of time before they let you make both factions on a PvP realm. …naaah, they’d never do that, since all it would do is encourage people who were ganked to jump on to their level one on the other side and whisper said ganker and cry all over them the whole time.”

    Guess I was wrong o.O

  2. I play both factions on my PvE realm, Cael. Its evil enough there, on a PvP realm with active world pvp its just silly.

    This move sucks Bliz!

  3. Oh dear.
I followed that link to the wow forums.

    Silly move. Brain nearly imploded!

Several pages of people saying its a great idea because they now can harass the people that annoy them, and others that cant read asking when they can tarnsfer BoA items.

I think the solution to the missing dark matter in the universe is solved by the increasing density of the commenters on wow forums!

  4. I made a gnome. I’m thinking about going to Stormwind, and then dancing in front of the bank and spam-yell “Now you can’t kill me!” until I get reported.

And then I would take three days off. 😀 But the ban would be so worth it just for the laughs.

I don’t know, though. I like most of the Alliance on VeCo, and so far there hasn’t been much drama over this.

  5. You know, it’s not even the change itself, although I think it’s going to cause a lot of problems and I’m a big follower of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

It’s the sneaky way they went about implementing it. Nothing was mentioned beforehand except a vague post weeks ago about them making some changes to help with the faction switch service that might show up in 3.2.

Why? Because they knew people wouldn’t like it. So they snuck it in and then were like, “Oh, yeah, we did that. What? You guys care? We figured it was no big deal.” Which is total baloney.

It’s their company. They’re going to do whatever they want either way. So why sneak around and hide things? And I feel really bad for the people who bought two accounts to be able to chat with friends on the other side, or who recently deleted or transfered beloved 80s to see how the other half lives. If I were one of those people, I’d be demanding some refunds or free game time or something out of this.

The change itself I don’t care for, but I can live with it. But the way they went about it just seems dirty.

  6. Personally, I don’t see very much harm or ‘sabotage’ coming from this cross-faction idea, but a friend of mine mentioned that he suspected Blizz is attempting to ‘pull out all the stops’ and is ‘rummaging in the bottom of the bucket for a last resort’ because they fear too many people have lost interest in the game because of the expansion and they’ve seen a decrease in play. Basically they’re becoming desperate. Thing is, the only people I know who’ve been remotely dissatisfied with Wrath were people who were in LOVE with vanilla WoW… something I wasn’t around for.

  7. I went and made a gnome warlock on VeCo the other day and ran her to Ironforge just because I was curious what the other side was like, but all and all it was a really bizarre experience that I disliked intensely. I didn’t like standing among the people that made my leveling experience miserable. >.> All I did was sit by the mailbox with the Alliance WorldDefense channel turned on, inwardly cheering anytime I saw anything was under attack.

    x_x

  8. Oh wow, I never thought of that.

I’ve just been harassing Alliance Trade. In character, of course. I mean, it’s not my fault my little gnomelock wants the Horde to win just to see what would happen.

  9. Espionage, Ladies.

I originally created alliance toons just so i could get familiar with their cities!

I wont be creating any allies on VeCo though. I’m already at my character limit and don’t want to sacrifice any of them just for a gnome spy!

  10. Oh, while i think of it.

Be open to the possibilities of cross faction trade. I dont see either of you online often enough to really help, but I will if possible.
